Beep Pakistan is the first-ever messaging app that was developed by the Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication. This app was created with the collaboration of the National Information Technology Board (NITB). Federal Minister for Information Technology Syed Amin Ul Haque launched this app on 7th August 2023. This app was going through tests and trials for a year.

Pakistan’s Beep App and its Features

Pakistani engineers have successfully developed and tested this messaging app and soon this app is going to be launched. As per resources, this app can be used for audio, videos, chats, and to make official conference calls without any disturbance. In an interview with Dawn News, the minister of NITB addresses that this beep app has several functions including secured messaging, document sharing, quick audio, and conference calls. This will be a secure platform for officials as this app is hosted in Pakistan with local servers. During the trial periods of this app, government officers can use it. If this app runs successfully through in trial then after one year it will be opened to the public also.

“Beep app” a completely homegrown app, has successfully undergone trial runs since 2023 and is now ready for the launch. He added, that this app is safer than other messaging apps and can be used by officials and locals equally. He also declares that the beep app was created to ensure uninterrupted communication between officials and security forces.

The Main Focus and Targeted Audience

Yes, the “Beep Pakistan” app is currently undergoing trial runs within the Ministry of Information in Pakistan. It is designed as a local alternative to WhatsApp, specifically for official communication among government employees and officers. Initially, this app was used for communication between officials with almost 41 federal ministries and departments. The main focus of this app is to create a secure and unified communication way among officials. Furthermore, this beep app will be extended to provincial levels and then open to the masses.

What Are the Reasons Behind Developing the Beep Pakistan App?

The idea of a beep app is derived from the concerns over the security features of other famous messaging apps like WhatsApp. They are not secure enough for official communications. Pegasus spyware targeted senior Pakistani officials in 2019, this incident provoked the government to create a local and secure resource for official communication. Moreover, this app is the best example of enhanced digital sovereignty and a great solution for security threats.

Beep Pakistan is an Alternative to WhatsApp and Other Messaging Apps

Initially, our NITB minister said that this app would be a great alternative to other messaging apps and also we would have our app unlike Bangladesh, India, the US, and several other countries. Now the government has denied this news by saying that this app is local and used for official security. Furthermore, he added that both WhatsApp and Beep have different specifications and work, both are not the same so there is no comparison between them. He added that Beep app is not a commercial app right now unlike WhatsApp and it’s a safe and secure platform for government communications.

While giving interviews to various news channels, Shaza Fatima Khwaja the state minister for information technology and communications said the beep app is not an alternative to WhatsApp. Also, she denies the plans to block WhatsApp in Pakistan by saying that this is an unnecessary exaggeration. Furthermore, she added that this app is to provide a secure communication environment to officials and comparison with other apps is irrelevant. When Beep opens for public communication, they are free to choose whatever platform they want.
